The New Success Habit: Strength for Two
A Quality of Thought: “The New Success Habit: Strength for Two”.
Self-care is the most crucial ingredient, whatever your current success project.
Whether you’re caring for those closest to you, working to accelerate your career, striving to build a new business, or making some telling contribution to society: you cannot give what you do not have. Energy. Vitality. Strength. Spirit. These must be Priority One.
A habit I invite all my clients to ingrain is developing the strength for two.
All of us will be either/or: a leader, a manager, a coach, a mentor, a sponsor, a champion, a colleague, a friend, a spouse, a parent, a sibling, a relation. And even if you don’t recognise yourself in one or other of these roles, there will always be: YOU. And your PROJECT.
We need the strength for two. And so, it is my habit to be continually developing strength enough for me and my other.
Imagine now, you are the kind of person who makes self-care such a priority that you always seem to have an abundance of strength. What are your constituent ingredients for exemplary self-care? Sleep. Rest. Water. Diet. Nutrition. Exercise. Pursuits. Meditation. Journaling.
- Make your own list now.
- And for each of your listed strategies: give yourself a score out of 7, where 7 is Tip Top and 1 is not-so.
- What’s working well? What’s getting better and better, with every passing day?
- And what needs your attention?
We cannot give what we do not have. And to give in the measures success requires, we need more in the tank than we need for ourselves alone.
Develop the strength for two.
