Fear is High Maintenance

Dan Beverly

A Quality of Thought: “Fear is High Maintenance.”

You’ll know, as we all do, that fear is the root emotion behind just so much of what keeps us stuck. Regardless of the myriad ways it plays-out in the external world, internally: fear is what’s going on.

Fear is a destructive emotion. Occasionally useful, yes. But aside from actual threat to life, it’s destructive. In particular: it drains us of so much energy.

But let’s notice now that it’s maintaining the fear that requires the enormous and ongoing expenditure of mental and physical energy. Not the initial pang of fear. The maintenance of it!

(Because that’s what we have to do. We have to actively maintain it. That thought pattern requires actual work! And how diligent we are in carrying-out that work.)

What a waste of time and energy! Time and energy that could be used to CREATE. To ask: given this “fearful” circumstance, what do I now want to create?

How do we move ourselves up through the various levels of consciousness? From fear to creativity?

WE DECIDE.

Your fear is a thought – and then a cascade of thoughts – that you’re actively choosing to maintain. So, make a different choice. More than that, DECIDE (which, when we’re in our highest states of consciousness, we all know to be a single moment in time, not an ongoing activity):

I decide NOT to put my time and energy into this fear. I decide to put my time and energy into creativity.

Remind yourself, little and often: Fear is High Maintenance! And choose elsewise what you’ll do with your previous time and energy.
