Want more flow time?

Dan Beverly

An hour of uninterrupted time is not only worth 3 or 4 hours of constantly disrupted and distracted time. It’s also the only opportunity for your best insights to take hold and become something. Else, that gateway is closed to you.

Want more deep work blocks? Then carve-out the time! (It’s not as easy as that? Yes, it is, when combined with a high-quality “No” to distraction and interruption.)

Want more flow time? Then incorporate 3 crucial ingredients …

#1 RAZOR-SHARP SUB GOALS: You must have clarity, because that’s where the conviction comes from. But also focus on sub-goals. Let go of the bigger goal, in favour of the next step.

#2 REAL-TIME FEEDBACK: Immediate cause/effect data that tells you what you’re doing is (or is not) achieving the desired result. And the real reason, not supposed reasons.

#3 CHALLENGE/SKILL SWEET SPOT: Incorporating enough challenge for the brain/mind to be engaged, but not so much that it outpaces our skill level and tips us into overwhelm.

Schedule a daily DWB (Deep Work Block) in the diary and make it a non-negotiable. And point that previous time at a mini-project on which you’re crystal clear, has you at the upper-echelons of your proficiency level, and for which you see immediate results.
