Positive Momentum

Dan Beverly

Start your day with positive momentum.

It’s an obvious thing to say. But as often is the case: common sense isn’t always common practice. Because look around, and you’ll most start their day with negatives.

Tuning into the news. Logging on to check email. Scrolling through social media. Mentally running through all the problems and issues that are on my mind. Delving into details, first thing.

Habits. Driven by a fear of missing out, being caught out, falling behind, being unaware. And it consumes our capacity to create, make decisions, deepen relationships, reflect, strategise, plan.

Without attention, our days will start with negative momentum. And when we lose that all-important first hour of the day, we spend the rest of the day trying to find it. (Ref.: Richard Whately.)

So: Revisit your disciplines and systems. Build a powerful routine. Set boundaries and rules. And carefully architect your first 90 working minutes of the day.

One more thought: start-of-day negative momentum also comes in the form of having to figure-out where we got to, yesterday and where we need to pick up from, today. So, finish every day with a plan for tomorrow’s positive momentum kick-off. Remove the decision-fatigue and any friction between you and your Positive Momentum Start.
